assigment 3: FOCAL POINT

 Focal point

A focal point is the central point of attraction or interest in a photograph. It is the object/person that everyone looks at. This image is a perfect example of focal point as it consists of many bright colours to lure the viewers in. Here, Perou has decided to not shy away from bold shades- the photo is very busy and full of various colours, including the background. My personal chosen focal point is the lady's vivid pink jacket. Another area of appeal may be the lady's face as it is colourless and pasty, but also brings sharpness to the image. We, as viewers, do not need to use our imaginations when analysing this photo because it already contains suitable colours. Behind the lady is her apparent shadow, which introduces depth and also separates the lady and the background.

This photograph is also a demonstration of  focal point. The features of this image makes it rather plain, however it is very skillful and contains some good ingriedients of composition.
It gives off an intriguing ora. The focal point of the portrait is the mans face. The glasses, veiled under the black hat, are good examples of colour contrast. You can see the outline of the frame of his glasses very clearly. The colour of the mans face is actually a slightly different shade to his neck. It is a grey ish colour, and this also makes every feature of the man stand out, so you can clearly see the shape of everything included in the photo. There is no background of the picture at all, so the viewers are completely fixated on the chosen focal point- the man.

This is a website that I found very helpful: http://www.picturecorrect.com/tips/focal-point-in-photo-compositions/
It teaches you about rule of thirds, exposure, light source and many other factors of focal point. Its a really good guideline and offers simple reccomendations to become a good photographer.
