assignment 3:COMPOSITION

Composition

composition is the setting or arrangment of elements and their relationship to the background of an image. For example the elements contained in a photograph are lighting, colour and focal point. These aspects are what makes the result of a good image. The term composition means 'putting  together'.  This is a photograph taken by John hedgecoe.
This image is good evidence of composition because the arrangement of the elements have been considered carefully. The contrast taking place in the image is strong, and by using dramatic lighting on the man on the right, you are able to see sharp lighting The colours are, although different shades, very similiar and have been portrayed differently, depending on the lighting. The lightest shade, where the light has been focused on the most is deliberate. The photographer wants you to look here first. The photograph has not been sectioned into thirds, as all three sections are individual and unique. This website is really good and helpful because it offers tips on how to use composition in order to improve photos:

I think this website is very useful and informative. It gives good advice and I think that even if you
didn't know one thing about taking pictures, you would soon pick it up. The website is also very simple to follow and gives good illustrations of good photos and bad ones.
Another useful website that helped me understand the rule of thirds: http://www.thewritingnut.com/a-z/rule-thirds/
